About this nursery
Wild Ridge Plants grows its pawpaws from open-pollinated seed of Pennsylvania provenance, so each plant is a genetically distinct seedling, not a grafted copy of a named variety. Fruit needs two unrelated plants to cross-pollinate, something grafted clones of the same cultivar cannot do for each other. Co-owners Rachel Mackow and Jared Rosenbaum raise their seed-grown natives in Alpha, New Jersey, where Warren County farmland meets the Highlands ridges, without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers or neonicotinoids. Pawpaws go out by UPS to most states east of the Mississippi, and the farm also sells in person, with walking trails for visitors.
